The Future Is Now
From Analogue to AI: In Live Performance

What is the impact of AI on live performance? What are the possibilities? What are the strengths we have in liveness that are outside of AI’s reach? What can AI contribute?

Join us August 4–10 at The Theatre Centre for the 2025 Volcano Conservatory — a dynamic week of live performance training and free public talks led by some of the most innovative artists and thinkers in the industry.

This is a space to deepen your craft through bold, hands-on approaches to analogue performance, rooted in presence, voice, movement, writing, and imaginative stagecraft. Most of the week focuses on developing the tools and instincts that fuel compelling live performance.

Alongside the performance training, this year’s conservatory also opens up space to engage with one of the most pressing questions in contemporary art-making: the rise of AI. What roles might it play in our creative processes? What are its limits? And how do we respond to it as artists, with curiosity, rigour, and imagination?

Through expert-led talks, practical workshops, and a long table discussion that brings together theatre-makers and AI specialists, we’ll explore the evolving relationship between technology and live performance — not to replace the work we do, but to better understand what’s at stake.

We welcome artists at all stages of their careers who are seeking a vibrant, collaborative environment to experiment, connect, and grow. Come train, question, and rediscover what makes live performance vital.
